Did you come here for something in particular or just general sightseeing?
One of Sydney’s most iconic walks will amaze whoever visit Sydney for any purpose of travel. Enjoy taking in breathtakingly beautiful beaches, spectacular cliff tops and great cafes along the way. The six km walk takes two to three hours, depending on how often you would like to stop, however I recommend to spend a full day to do the walk and enjoy a swim at each of the beaches en route.
Let’s begin to walk at Sydney’s famous Bondi Beach where is a National Surfing Reserve and a great place for anyone to try surfing for the first time. Looking over the stunning Bondi Icebergs swimming club, one of Australia’s most photographed pools, onto a paved path that will take you round the headland.
During the winter time, you will have a chance to spot humpback whales making the annual migration at great vantage points along the coast. At Mark’s Park, just south of McKenzies Point you can marvel at 2,000 year old traditional Aboriginal rock carvings, before continuing on to Tamarama Beach.
Making your day of beach side
Keep continuing the coastline to Bronte Beach. There is a lovely park behind the beach with BBQ facilities, as well as a number of cafes. You can have a great pause for lunch or drink here if you’re spending a day at the coast. Bronte also has a beautiful ocean pool at the southern end of the beach, and a natural sheltered rock pool called the Bogey Hole.
From Bronte following the track that passes Calga Reserve. Here you can walk past (or through) the heritage listed Waverly Cemetery, which is the resting place of many prominent Australians, including celebrated poet Henry Lawson.
Let’s follow Cliffbrook Parade to Gordon’s Bay, a cute narrow beach lined with fishing boats. What makes this bay popular with divers and snorkellers are not only crystal clear ocean and beautiful creatures under the sea, but also a home to a 600m underwater nature trail. From Gordon’s Bay the walk continues to your final destination: Coogee Beach.
Because it is protected from ocean swells by nearby Wedding Cake Island, this beach is a perennial favourite with families and holidaymakers. You will be able to enjoy the calm surf, natural rock pools and parkland for picnics and BBQs. To celebrate finish of your coastal walk, head to the Coogee Pavillion for a wood-fired pizza and cocktails. Or enjoy an ice-cream as treat at one of the plentiful cafes along the promenade with the kids and yourself.
There is exciting event for art funs for three weeks each spring. Sculptures by the Sea is the largest annual sculpture exhibition in the world, illuminates the Bondi to Tamarama section of the coastal walk. Let’s be dazzled by over 100 sculptures on this spectacular outdoor stage.
